Popular smartphone making company Samsung has decided to put a halt to the sale of its latest device, Galaxy Note 7 all over the world. There have been various reports of device exploding while charging. This has prompted the company to order a worldwide recall of the device. This news comes just weeks after the launching of Note 7.It is both shocking and sad for the customers who have already bought this device.Samsung is a well-trusted brand in the world of electronics and this is surely least expected among customers.
A spokesperson said “To date, there have been 35 cases that have been reported globally and we are currently conducting a thorough inspection with our suppliers to identify possible affected batteries in the market. However, because our customers’ safety is an absolute priority at Samsung, we have stopped sales of the Galaxy Note 7.
“For customers who already have Galaxy Note 7 devices, we will voluntarily replace their current device with a new one over the coming weeks.”
Anonymous sources have reported that the root cause of the problem is a fault in the battery cell.It can explode while charging of the device.According to the reports, the fault was found in 35 Galaxy Note 7 handsets which exploded while charging. The president of Samsung’s mobile business, Mr. Koh Dong-jin said ““We have received several reports of battery explosions on the Note 7 and it has been confirmed that it was a battery cell problem. There was a tiny problem in the manufacturing process so it was very difficult to find out.”
Yonhap, a Korean news agency was the first one to report the news.Samsung has ordered the recall and is ready to offer replacements to the customers.Though the problem occurs in a very small amount of handsets, the company don’t want to take any risks with its reputation.Samsung holds the security of customers as top priority.Another anonymous source from the company said “products installed with problematic battery accounts for less that 0.1 percent of the volume sold” and “The problem can be simply resolved by changing the battery, but we’ll come up with convincing measures for our consumers.”The company wants to make sure that the device is 100% safe to use and the matter will be investigated. The company will change the batteries of the faulty devices for free.
Reportedly, Samsung is currently in talks with Verizon and other business partners on how to take care of the recall process.”Global discussions are under way about matters such as how to deal with products delivered to dealers. Results of the investigation and relevant countermeasures will be made public this weekend or early next week at the latest.” a source quoted. The company expects at least two weeks time for the completion of the replacement process.Though the company did not name those who were at fault, it is believed that the batteries which were sourced from Korea were affected. But to ensure safety, the company has decided to recall all models.
This has caused the delay of Galaxy Note 7 shipments in India.Samsung India has informed the customers who have pre-booked the device about the delay through a message though no official reason was given. The message says “Thank you for pre-booking Galaxy Note 7. We regret to inform that delivery of your Galaxy Note 7 is being delayed. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. You can be assured that we are working hard to deliver your Galaxy Note 7 to you as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding.”The shipments for various markets inclding South Korea and the United States were also delayed for extra security checks.
Galaxy Note 7’s price in India is well over Rs 50,000.It runs on Exynos processor (only users with Exynos processor seems to be facing this problem) and comes with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal memory.External memory can be extended up to 256 GB.It comes with Android Marshmallow which can be upgraded to latest Nougat introduces a new S pen.
The worst part is that the issue has happened just when the company’s sales were starting to pick up momentum after a considerable period of stable sales. And on top of that the much anticipated Apple’s, I phone 7 is all set to capture the market. Now Samsung will face a dual task of restoring people’s trust in their device and at the same time to withstand a tough competition from Apple.
