A tragic explosion rocked the busy streets of Chandni Chowk, New Delhi this morning. Just days before Diwali an explosion took place in the narrow lanes of Naya Baazar in Chandni Chowk on Tuesday morning.
The explosion has left one person dead and injured four others. The initial investigation revealed that the cause of the explosion could be cracker burst. The police recovered a lot of explosive material which is used in firecrackers from the site of the explosion.
The impact of the blast was such that the windows of neighboring buildings were damaged.
After the explosion, people were seen running to safety in the busy streets of Naya Baazar. There was total chaos in the market. The entire area was filled with smoke after the explosion.
The people informed the police and fire department about the blast around 10:45 am. Police have not denied the possibility of a terror attack.
SBK Singh, a senior police officer told that the police have recovered plastic shells which are normally used in firecrackers. They will further investigate and figure out the nature of explosive material found. They also said that since there was no crater at the spot, it can be safely assumed that explosive material was not of very high intensity.
DCP Mathur Verma led several police teams to the spot. Firefighters also reached and did their job. 3 fire tenders were used.
Delhi’s anti-terror wing and Special cell also rushed there. The forensic team collected the samples and the police took the area under control.
The local people told that there was a person who was carrying two jute bags with him. When he put down his bags on the ground, the explosion took place. The person who was carrying crackers in those bags died immediately.
The festive season is in full swing in the country with Diwali approaching. The whole nation, especially Delhi is on high alert. Delhi police have tightened the security as anti-national elements are trying to unstable the nation with their terror attacks.
We hope that this was not a terror attack and no such unfortunate incidents occur in the future.
