ENGINE
In spite of many changes in the exterior and interior, Honda has not altered with the engine. The Honda city 2017 shares the same engine as its predecessors. The new version is powered by the same 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol and 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engines.
The petrol engine delivers the power of 118 bhp at 6,600 rpm and 145 Nm of torque at 4,600rpm while the diesel engine delivers 99 bhp at 3,600 rpm against 200 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm.
The petrol variant comes with a five-speed manual transmission along with an option of CVT (continuously variable transmission) automatic transmission with paddle shifters. This engine is slightly better than its diesel counterpart and is very torquey. The engine pulls cleanly at any speed in any gear. It can easily drive in both city and highway. It is highly refined and has extremely low levels of NVH (noise vibration and harshness).
The diesel engine comes with a 6-speed manual transmission option only. It is made of aluminium which makes it lighter and improves its mileage and performance. Like the case with all aluminium engines, it is a bit noisy too. But the amount of power it produces is quite impressive. There is not much need to shift the gears continuously which results in a comfortable drive.
