Get ready for a jaw-dropping moment as Tata motors have come up with their most stunning car ever. Tata motors have unveiled it’s most ambitious project till date. Tata is planning to start a new revolution in the Indian supercar market with the introduction of its own sports coupe called the Tata Tamo Racemo. The company showed the first glimpse of its new sports car on the on the first day of the 87th Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland. Unlike another concept models which the company
Unlike another concept models which the company showcased in previous motor shows, Tata Tamo Racemo is a production ready car which is expected to hit the Indian market in the second half of 2018.
However, Racemo was never meant for production. It was just designed as a digital car to target the teenagers who love playing racing video games. It was supposed to be a virtual car meant for the digital gaming world. The management team made a physical model of the car and showed it to the top management of the company. Former chairman Cyrus Mystery was mighty impressed with the model that he gave his nod to build the car in reality.
The two-seater mid-engine car is the first product from Tata Motors’ exclusive sub-brand Tamo. It was designed at the Tata Motors studio in Italy. The legendary designer Marcelo Gandini is the man behind the design of this stunning car. The radical construction of Racemo makes it unique. Usually, supercars are made of steel but Racemo is built on a very innovative multi-material sandwich structure coined ‘Moflex’ which is patented. The Italian designer had sold the rights to this technology to the Indian company in 2007.
The Moflex sandwich structure comprises of two composite skins along with a foam filling which forms a light and stiff panel. This technology provides the makers with more freedom in surface design and efficient large-scale part integration which leads to modularity. In addition, it is a very cost effective method and it makes the production time faster.
Tata motors claim that it is the first time in the passenger car industry that this body construction technique is being used. Tata Tamo Racemo is definitely Tata’s most attractive and stylish car yet. Its design is not clean unlike most of the passenger cars from Tata Motors. It is a complex interplay of extreme shapes and multiple surfaces which make us overwhelmed by its design. The wide front grille gives has a touch of Tata family look while the rear has a complex look. It is split and sculpted and has taken inspiration from BMW i8. The butterfly doors add to its jaw-dropping style.
The front of Racemo features narrow Bi-LED headlights, a sporty front bumper an aggressive nose.
The cabin features three high-resolution screens. They seem so futuristic that they appear to have come straight out of a video game. The steering wheel is loaded with buttons and has bright, large paddle shifters behind it. There are pull straps for the doors and the air con vents appear like they are the exhaust of an air jet. The multi-tone Gray-White-Red color adds glamour to it.
The supercar will be full of technology too. It will feature connected car technologies from the partnership between Tata and Microsoft. There are unconfirmed reports but the sources say that it will feature remote monitoring, predictive maintenance and advanced navigation. The user can use these specifications via three screens.
Tata has ensured that the safety measures are of first class. They have provided Racemo with disc brakes with ABS and EBD all around. The body has inbuilt integrated crash safety protection with the driver. The passenger airbags meet the regulations of the Indian market. It has both a standard three point seat belt as well as a four-point harness.
A turbocharged and inter-cooled 1.2L Revotron engine powers Racemo. It produces 190 horsepower at 6,500 rpm (revolutions per minute) and 210Nm of torque at 2,500rpm. There is a 6-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) with paddle shifters and push button. To be honest, it is a bit of a let down as AMT’s are too slow for a sports car.
Tata claims that Racemo can reach from 0-100 kph within just 6 seconds and the top speed is about 220 kph.
The expected price of Racemo is around 25 lakh. For this money, this supercar could be one of the most desirable when it will make its way in the market. Tata will launch Racemo in the mid-2018 and India will be the first country where it will be launched.
